Finding a Better Way — LMC Legacy Foundation

Over 60 years ago, Lancaster Conference Mennonites responded to atrocities in state mental hospitals with the call to “find a better way” to care for persons with mental health needs. The call became action as the Mennonites built and staffed Philhaven Hospital growing it to a highly respected faith based state of the art behavioral healthcare facility.

Early in 2016, LMC released their ownership of Philhaven Behavioral Healthcare System for it to expand its mission through a new affiliation with Wellspan Health. In return, Wellspan Health promised LMC $7.26 million to fund what became the LMC Legacy Foundation tasked with the challenge to continue to “find a better way” in faith based mental health care.

November 1st, 2018, the LMC Legacy Foundation Board announced they are ready to receive grant proposals for new mental health services that meet innovative and outcome based requirements. Grants will be funded by the earnings from the investment of the Legacy Foundation monies.

Visit the Legacy website https://lmc-legacyfoundation.org/ to learn more about the foundation as well as grant application requirements. A grant application portal is open for non-profit agencies wishing to submit a proposal. Proposals will be reviewed on a six month cycle.
