DESCRIPTION:If you are a new or relatively new pastor or ministry leader within LMC\, we invite you\, your spouse\, and bishop to participate in our annual orientation for newly (or recently) credentialed leaders\, usually held on the third Wednesday in April. \nConference office staff offer this orientation to help pastors and other credentialed leaders become more fully connected to our shared life in Christ. We hope the orientation will encourage you as a leader in ministry and help you better understand LMC and our shared vision.\nBishops\, Conference staff\, and other leaders will review several main topics: \n\nWho we are as a conference (history\, core values\, vision and current priorities)\,\nWhere we are going as a Conference with 2020 Vision: We See New Life\,\nHow we are organized (congregations\, districts\, conference office\, agencies)\,\nResources to encourage and support leaders and congregations (including the Congregational Resource Center\, Leadership Assistance Program\, STEP).\n\nAny credentialed leader who has not been to an orientation is strongly encouraged to attend. SUMMARY:Conference Related Ministries Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Registration cost is $30 for CRM’s and $15 for pastors. \nThis seminar will bring together local congregations and church related ministries of Lancaster and Atlantic Coast Conferences to discern concrete ways of engaging together to meet the needs of the local communities within which they exist–social\, emotional\, spiritual\, and health-related. \nData from last year’s seminar showed that very few pastors are aware or particularly interested in the agencies\, but would be moreso if they knew how the agencies might help them fulfill God’s mission in their local communities. In other words\, both agencies and congregations may be missing an important opportunity to engage God’s mission together. \nFocus groups were conducted prior to this seminar with agency leaders\, and this information will be utilized to further expand the conversation that we began last year when we were together.\n \nClick here to register.

The giveaway extends until December 11\, but the cookies and hot chocolate are only on Dec. 5. \nThe Conference Resource Center is eliminating the library resources and giving the items away for personal use (resellers not welcome). Due to lack of use\, it was decided to eliminate this resource and turn the books over to congregational use. \nAny items remaining after Dec. 11 will go to the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society Book Frolic.

SUMMARY:Responding to Church Violence: Thinking Ahead
DESCRIPTION:The MSNBC headline in 2015 read\, “Charleston shooting part of long history of violence against churches.” An earlier USA Today headline in 2013 was similar: “Churches boost security as violent incidents grow.” With a string of tragedies over the last decade in church sanctuaries\, cathedrals\, and other locations of faith ministry\, many faith-based organizations are offering educational resources to help reduce or prevent violence from occurring. \n\n\nLancaster Mennonite Conference will offer a seminar on this troubling aspect of contemporary life to help churches think ahead to the unthinkable. Responding to Church Violence: Thinking Ahead will take place on Thursday\, July 20 at Oxford Circle Mennonite Church\, 900 Howell St\, Philadelphia\, Pa. The seminar\, featuring law enforcement and church leaders\, will convene at 7:00 p.m. and end by 9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. \n\nPastor Tracy Brown (retired State Police) will provide a peace church context for the presentation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Local metro police will also be present to comment on facility safety. The police officers will provide practical suggestions to reduce threats and describe resources available to churches to increase personal and property safety. The approach of the evening will encourage thoughtful responses rather than fearful reactions. A time for question and answer is scheduled for the evening. \n\nPastors\, Rabbi’s\, faith-based organization board members\, church trustees\, and others interested in the subject are encouraged to attend. A small packet of printed resources will be available to attenders. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP Joselyn Santiago (jsantiago@lancasterconference.org) to reserve a space for this seminar. \n\nSchools\, government offices\, businesses\, churches\, synagogues and mosques\, to name a few\, have experienced violence at their locations. Some reports suggest violence occurring at faith-based locations has increased over the last decade. As a result many places have responded with education\, training\, and security measures to increase the safety of the people on the premises.
