Harmonies Workshop – Sing Colonial Hymns

November 19, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
The Foresingers are back! The Foresingers formed in 1993 as a group of 12 select singers interested in American early music. Performing in historic sites and museums and academic conferences, they took the music to several states and Canada. They won cameo appearances in two PBS documentaries.
In celebration of having the score engraved this year, the group decided to gather again, including the piano, temple blocks, zither, flute, harp and bells. All are welcome to this free program.  Expect some audience participation.
These early tunes sung by ear were popular before singing schools taught harmony and hymnals printed notes. The music evokes a world of unison, slow mystery. When John Adams went to church in New York in 1774 he wrote to Abigail that the singing was “in the old way,” with all the “dawdling and quavering.”
A free will offering will help defray expenses.
