BISHOP ELDERS TEAM WEEKLY EMAIL – CARTA SEMANAL DEL EQUIPO DE ANCIANOS OBISPOS

April 24, 2023

My heart rejoices every time Isaiah 55 is read and shared! It is like the water that coming down the mountain of God that replenishes my soul. I was rejoicing to be able to be part of Spring Leadership Assembly and Celebration of Church Life.  It was a joy to hear the beautiful sermon by Bishop Hyacinth Stevens on this passage, to watch the “busy bees” of a growing LMC, to happily listen to a full sermon in Spanish that I am sure that I only understand a little, and to feel the joy of many attendees at the Celebration of Church Life – even from life streaming because I got quarantined due to Covid. LMC is beginning to experience what was written by the prophet Isaiah.

This morning, verse 11 struck me again: “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; it will not return to Me void (useless, without result), without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it”. God spoke and because of what was spoken by Him, we live! But does God still speak today? Surely, yes! He does! I would like to share the story of Marvin, our EMM president. Marvin shared his vision to the Vietnamese Church leaders in his visit to Vietnam in November 2022. He challenged the Vietnamese leaders to go out from Vietnam to neighboring countries to spread the Word of God. I received news several days ago that a Vietnamese church is starting a mission work in Cambodia, and they had two new believers and a Mennonite Church in Banlung is being organized. Gerry Keener, an ex-president of EMM would recognize this pastor because Ê-tiên was Gerry’s trainee.

During a recent trip to Vietnam, the team of Bishop Joe, Bishop Rodney and Professor William prayed for a small bible study group in a most remote swamp of Vietnam to become a church with a renovated building. It was just a vision last month, but today, a “Lydia of Vietnam” has made a commitment to support almost 100% of the cost to rebuild the place. Now we are working on the water well drilling. Would it be exciting to visit that place next year? Do you want to visit it?

One pastor who only likes to teach music is now excited to share the Gospel to the lost because he was so touched when he attended William’s Zoom class on the Gospel of Mark. Last week, for the first time he organized an outreach, and twenty-five people were saved. His wife sang hallelujah and promised to go with her husband to become a fisher-of-men from now on. The host of the event, a local church leader was rejoicing because now her church is going to be filled up.

The Spirit of the Lord will tell us to speak His Word today, to save souls, to build up, to encourage, to comfort, to train, to make the invisible things visible. We made a difference elsewhere, but could we make a difference right here? Could we speak to LMC to build her up in the States, in Pennsylvania, in Lancaster? Could we share our transformational stories with each other and glorify the Lord for what He is doing? Could we speak God’s beautiful vision to ourselves? I am resolute to listen and speak good things from the Lord this week.
